David Campbell's Masterclass
DAVID CAMPBELL TO GIVE MASTERCLASS AT MACDONALD COLLEGE
Shortly before he gives his final performances as Marius in Les Miserables at the Theatre Royal and only a week before he leaves for London to sing before the Queen at the Royal Gala, David Campbell is giving a masterclass at Macdonald College for students, parents and interested others. David is donating his services to the college for the night to help raise funds for the college's tour by ballet students of the USA In early 1999.
David first gave a masterclass at the college twelve months ago, the great success and high entertainment value of that day has made us want to open the experience for everyone - the masterclass will take place at the Russian Club on Sunday May 24th at 7.30pm. Tickets are $20 and $10 for students and can be booked in advance. With David's extraordinary popularity, it is advised to book early.
This is a rare opportunity to watch this amazingly talented and acclaimed young Australian pass on to six young students of the college some of the knowledge and theatrical and musical experiences he has picked up from working with the greats of New York in the last few years. At the end of the class it is expected David will perform himself for approx. 20 minutes.
Since first being invited to perform at the 1996 New York Cabaret Convention, David Campbell's career has gone from success to success. From his early peformances at Eighty Eights in New York to incredible critical acclaim from every major New York critic last year when he conquered New York with his show at Rainbow and Stars, David has achieved a remarkable career at the early age of 24. The New York Times said of him last year: "He oozes star quality, he is a natural entertainer". David returns to New York in July after seven months as Marius in the Australian production of Les Miserables. During this time in Australia he has been the subject of a major 60 Minutes report, performed two sell out solo concerts at The Theatre Royal, stopped the show while performing at the Night of a Hundred National Treasures, performed solo at the opening of the Fox Studios in Sydney, been nominated for a New York MAC award (for Outstanding male singer of the year), been awarded a New York Backstage Bistro Award for outstanding achievement as a male vocalist, received two Australian MO nominations as "Australian Ambassador of the year" and "Best Featured Actor in a Musical" (these will be awarded in June) and tops all this off by singing for the Queen at the Royal Gala on June 8th. Already it has been quite a year for David and the college is proud to have him as a special guest on this very special night.
David's speciality is giving dramatic and truthful subtext to all his music, and he will be demonstrating to the young students how to relate and make truthful all their musical and dramatic performances.
Bookings can be made at the MacDonald College Office during office hours on 9763 1322.
